The Bill Bennett Cup is the opening event of the West Coast Sprint Series, bringing top-tier Etchells competition to San Diego Bay. This regatta honors the legacy of Bill Bennett, a beloved SDYC member and exceptional sailor.

Bill was a lifelong competitor and fierce tactician, earning two 5th-place finishes at the Star World Championships and helping win the 2000 Etchells Worlds. He was also a fixture of the Miami Jaguar Series, competing at a high level for decades and always representing SDYC with integrity and skill.
